Interest rate decision

On the first Tuesday of every month (except January) the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) meets and makes their official interest rate decision. Immediately following this meeting, at 2:30 pm, the RBA issues a media release detailing any change to the official cash rate.

Any changes to the interest rate will come into effect the following day.

July 2019 Interest Rate Decision

On the 2nd of July 2019, the RBA decided to further reduce the cash rate by 0.25% following on from the reduction in June. This brings the cash rate down to a historically low 1.00%.


June 2019 Interest Rate Decision

On the 5th of June 2019, the RBA met and decided to reduce by 0.25% – bringing the official interest rate down to 1.25%


May 2019 Interest Rate Decision

On the 8th of May 2019, the RBA met and decided to leave the official cash rate unchanged at 1.50%.


April 2019 Interest Rate Decision

On the 3rd of April 2019, the RBA decided to leave the official cash rate unchanged at 1.50%.


March 2019 Interest Rate Decision

On the 6th of March 2019, the RBA again left the official interest rate unchanged at 1.50%.


February 2019 Interest Rate Decision

On the 6th of February 2019, the RBA left the official interest rate unchanged at 1.50%.


January 2019 Interest Rate Decision

The RBA does not meet in January. The next RBA meeting will be in February.


December 2018 Interest Rate Decision

On the 5th of December 2018, the RBA met and decided to leave the official cash rate unchanged at 1.50%.


November 2018 Interest Rate Decision

On the 7th of November 2018, the RBA left the official cash rate at 1.50%.


October 2018 Interest Rate Decision

On the 3rd of October 2018, the RBA decided to leave the cash rate at 1.50%.


September 2018 Interest Rate Decision

On the 5th of September 2018, the RBA met and announced that they will leave the official cash rate unchanged at 1.50%.


August 2018 Interest Rate Decision

On the 8th of August 2018, the RBA left the official cash rate unchanged at 1.5%.


July 2018 Interest Rate Decision

On the 4th July 2018, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) met and decided to leave the official cash rate at 1.5%. This is no change from the previous month.
