The first thing you need to know about the call is, well, who exactly to call. In this context, we’ll be calling your home loan provider. However, don’t let this hold you back… if you want to try this with the providers of your other financial products, then, by all means, give it a go… just remember to let me know how it goes.
Great question. We’re going to be calling your home loan provider, and flat-out ask them for a discount. There’s no sugar-coating it. The script is this:
“Hi, can you please give me a discount on my home loan?”
It’s 12 words… well, I’m not sure if the “a” counts as a word… so maybe it’s 11 words and a letter.
It’s short, sharp, and can be done in 5 minutes.
So, how do you know if you’re at the maximum discount? Well, there are probably two ways:
1. You hear these words “I’m sorry sir, but I can see that there have been heavy discounts already applied to your account and we can’t offer any additional”
2. Speak to a mortgage broker who can confirm whether you’re getting the sharpest rate from your lender
They are probably going to have a fair idea. As an example, we recently had a new client come to us with an investment loan with one of the major lenders. His rate… 4.83%. The rate we could see for the exact same lender… 3.99%.
